Auntie Mame said...


"Life is a banquet and most poor fools are starving to death."

I first saw the movie, Auntie Mame, in the late '50's. Am I dating myself? So, I'll risk it. Anyhow that was and is one of my favorite 'high energy' movies. Rosalind Russell did a fantastic job of portraying Mame Dennise, an out of work woman at the beginning of the depression.

She was a woman saw life differently than most and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. She went down paths where 'angels feared to tread' and spoke lines that really floated...and still float my cork. If I were going to throw a party, Rosalind Russell as Mame Dennis would be one of the guests I would invite to my 'banquet.'

There are so many things that I enjoy today that haven't changed. I love to be happy because I love the energy it gives me. And I don't need an energy drink to do it. As I look at the 'banquet table' life sets before me TODAY... 'cause that's all I've got to work with, I look for the good stuff.

First I pour myself a glass of 'champagne' ...in the form of Rosalind Russell who has an incredible way of making me feel better. Do you want to know a coincidence? (Which I don't believe in) She comes from Waterbury, CT which is where I'm living now. That lady has a wonderful sense of timing as a comedic actress and my secret's out...I love comedy. So watching a movie of this sort makes me all bubbly inside.

Then I pour myself another glass of 'champagne'...called YouTube. Do you know why? Because I can watch snatches of Auntie Mame again. In fact I've found there is so much on YouTube for me to see I hardly know where to begin. OK...enough 'champagne'.

The point is I can have fun every day of the week looking for things that are right under my nose that make me happy on my 'banquet table'. That's why I figure if I look at the good stuff that's on my 'table' today...I'll never go hungry. Life is not about having 'boneless chicken' or 'pitless olives'.

It only happens in the movies....???

I've found out (through a source I won't divulge...'cause I forgot who it was), that I could watch TV and movies for free on Hulu.  Now, with the price being with my 'range of affordabilty', I decided to check it out.  At first I went through the 'learning stage'.  I had to, like most other sites I come across, learn to navigate.  Since boating is not one of my skills, it was NOT smooth sailing at first. I found out, that without a TV service I could keep up with my favorite 'soap operas'.  And that's what I started doing.  But curiosity got the best of me.  One day I accidentally clicked on 'Korean drama' and a whole new world opened up to me.  Another country is into 'soaps' too!  Did I surrender to my curiosity?  Do bears do 'do do' in the woods?   But since I don't speak the language, I read the dialogue (I love to read and I do it fast) in order to know what's going on.  Through these 'adventures' I

What's a...serious side?

Once in awhile, I stop trying to develop my own 'character' (which is like trying to stop a flood with my bare hands), and work on developing 'fictional characters'. So I go to the my Mind Gym for a workout...it's fun there and a great way to exercise. Mental gymnastics? Dumbells included? Gosh, I'd be right at home. Anyhoo, I took a writing class awhile back (I can see 'disbelief' written all over your face), and worked with fantasy characters like: Mortimer P Snodgrass, the fly on the wall, etc. I won't elaborate 'cause Sylvia says once in awhile I can be a little 'over the top'. One day, I was sitting thinking (which I find is relaxing) and the idea struck me...."Why don't you try writing something 'different, dummy." Trust me...my imagination and me had a 'discussion' about that one later. I don't like being struck. I wrote this. Why am I posting it? Dunno. Why not? It goes like this... Lost

My roller skating sweater...

     Now I'm at a crossroads.  Should I toss my team sweater... or get out the sewing basket and stitch up the seam and sew a few buttons on?   Most guys would toss it 'cause the ones I know don't have the time to bother or the skill necessary to accomplish that 'feat'.  And girls probably would be easier than guys (I'm just guessing at that one) to vote for the garbage can if they knew how long I had it.  1979?  34 years?       But when it's washed, my cardigan looks like new.  I've worn it every year I had it and it's been a 'good friend' to me when I've been cold...which is part of my nature.  Brrrrrrrr.  Originally, the dark blue sweater had my name stitched on the front and a patch announcing 'King's Skate Country' on the back.  All the members of the roller skating team had one for the occasions we had to separate the sheep from the group that weren't part of the team.  Did I just refer to myself as a...sheep?  Oh
