"I Gotta Be Me"...who else?

One of the many favorite things I enjoy are songs that ‘grab me’ for one reason or other... and stick in my noodle.

"I Gotta Be Me" is one of those. I realized that I'm at this stage of my life it could be my theme song. So John Crocker aka the Moonshooter needs a theme song? Sure...why not?

I, of course being the ‘aspiring novelist’ that I am, was nosy and had to find out where it came from and when...and talk about timing. Whoa. It’s from a Broadway musical (and I love musicals) called The Golden Rainbow, that closed on January 11, 1969. Exactly forty years ago today.

I like the Rainbow part in the title because it reminds me of ‘Over the Rainbow’ from the Wizard of OZ, one of my favorite movies. That’s cool too. So what did I do next? You didn’t ask...but I’ll tell you anyhow.

When I finished reading the lyrics, I thought that this is what 'being ME' is all about. I am who I am...and I’m stuck with it. As it's been said , just go with the flow. That's what John Crocker , 70 year old aspiring novelist is doing....shooting for the moon. And I'm a'whistling my new ‘theme song’, I GOTTA BE ME. It's kinda catchy, huh? :)

And in the profound words of Bugs Bunny, "Thhhhhhhhat’s all folks."

It only happens in the movies....???

I've found out (through a source I won't divulge...'cause I forgot who it was), that I could watch TV and movies for free on Hulu.  Now, with the price being with my 'range of affordabilty', I decided to check it out.  At first I went through the 'learning stage'.  I had to, like most other sites I come across, learn to navigate.  Since boating is not one of my skills, it was NOT smooth sailing at first. What's a...serious side?

Once in awhile, I stop trying to develop my own 'character' (which is like trying to stop a flood with my bare hands), and work on developing 'fictional characters'. So I go to the my Mind Gym for a workout...it's fun there and a great way to exercise. Mental gymnastics? Dumbells included? Gosh, I'd be right at home. Anyhoo, I took a writing class awhile back (I can see 'disbelief' written all over your face), and worked with fantasy characters like: Mortimer P Snodgrass, the fly on the wall, etc. I won't elaborate 'cause Sylvia says once in awhile I can be a little 'over the top'. One day, I was sitting thinking (which I find is relaxing) and the idea struck me...."Why don't you try writing something 'different, dummy." Trust me...my imagination and me had a 'discussion' about that one later. I don't like being struck. I wrote this. Why am I posting it? Dunno. Why not? It goes like this... Lost

My roller skating sweater...

     Now I'm at a crossroads.  Should I toss my team sweater... or get out the sewing basket and stitch up the seam and sew a few buttons on?   Most guys would toss it 'cause the ones I know don't have the time to bother or the skill necessary to accomplish that 'feat'.  And girls probably would be easier than guys (I'm just guessing at that one) to vote for the garbage can if they knew how long I had it.  1979?  34 years?       But when it's washed, my cardigan looks like new.  I've worn it every year I had it and it's been a 'good friend' to me when I've been cold...which is part of my nature.  Brrrrrrrr.  Originally, the dark blue sweater had my name stitched on the front and a patch announcing 'King's Skate Country' on the back.  All the members of the roller skating team had one for the occasions we had to separate the sheep from the group that weren't part of the team.  Did I just refer to myself as a...sheep?  Oh
