Extra! Extra! 'A New Adventure'...yesterday's edition.




Yesterday I did something I'd never done before. I was an 'extra' in a movie. A Mafia movie no less. That surprised the heck out of me. I'm more Wizard of Oz/ Peter Pan kinda guy... but I'm learning to be Mr. Versatility.

A friend of mine was shooting an Independent movie called Holyland The Movie and needed extras for a picnic scene. It was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I've been wanting to check out the Ponte Club because Sylvia is a Ponte, I love to see what goes on 'behind the scene' of movie making, and since I'm retired...I have the time. So I gave it careful thought (about 35 seconds worth) and decided to volunteer my 'ignorance' to the project. I hauled my 'body along for a prop.

The shoot was going to be at the Ponte Club at 11am yesterday, on Farmwood Rd. which is on the other side of town. Since I have no car, I thought I'd grab a bus as far as I could and grunt the rest of the uphill mile. :( Lately anything that isn't flat and goes up is a 'hill'.

I went prepared for 'a picnic'. I used the 'use-it-again' bag that I bought at the grocery store, filled it with 2 peanut butter sandwiches (in case I got hungry), two bottles of water (self-explanatory), a blanket, a notebook, and...a camera! Then at 9:45 I set off on the my adventure. My timing was a little off and as slow as I walked...I got there 1/2 hour early. I sat and 'communed with nature'...and got my nose sunburned because I forgot sunscreen.

The 'shoot' went well and I met some fun and interesting people, learned a lot about 'behind the scenes' thing and had a great outing. The camera was used on the way back 'down' :) and I took some cool pictures...for Mr. Not Cameraguy.

...and that was my Yesterday! Today is another New Beginning. ;-)

It only happens in the movies....???

I've found out (through a source I won't divulge...'cause I forgot who it was), that I could watch TV and movies for free on Hulu.  Now, with the price being with my 'range of affordabilty', I decided to check it out.  At first I went through the 'learning stage'.  I had to, like most other sites I come across, learn to navigate.  Since boating is not one of my skills, it was NOT smooth sailing at first. I found out, that without a TV service I could keep up with my favorite 'soap operas'.  And that's what I started doing.  But curiosity got the best of me.  One day I accidentally clicked on 'Korean drama' and a whole new world opened up to me.  Another country is into 'soaps' too!  Did I surrender to my curiosity?  Do bears do 'do do' in the woods?   But since I don't speak the language, I read the dialogue (I love to read and I do it fast) in order to know what's going on.  Through these 'adventures' I

What's a...serious side?

Once in awhile, I stop trying to develop my own 'character' (which is like trying to stop a flood with my bare hands), and work on developing 'fictional characters'. So I go to the my Mind Gym for a workout...it's fun there and a great way to exercise. Mental gymnastics? Dumbells included? Gosh, I'd be right at home. Anyhoo, I took a writing class awhile back (I can see 'disbelief' written all over your face), and worked with fantasy characters like: Mortimer P Snodgrass, the fly on the wall, etc. I won't elaborate 'cause Sylvia says once in awhile I can be a little 'over the top'. One day, I was sitting thinking (which I find is relaxing) and the idea struck me...."Why don't you try writing something 'different, dummy." Trust me...my imagination and me had a 'discussion' about that one later. I don't like being struck. I wrote this. Why am I posting it? Dunno. Why not? It goes like this... Lost

My roller skating sweater...

     Now I'm at a crossroads.  Should I toss my team sweater... or get out the sewing basket and stitch up the seam and sew a few buttons on?   Most guys would toss it 'cause the ones I know don't have the time to bother or the skill necessary to accomplish that 'feat'.  And girls probably would be easier than guys (I'm just guessing at that one) to vote for the garbage can if they knew how long I had it.  1979?  34 years?       But when it's washed, my cardigan looks like new.  I've worn it every year I had it and it's been a 'good friend' to me when I've been cold...which is part of my nature.  Brrrrrrrr.  Originally, the dark blue sweater had my name stitched on the front and a patch announcing 'King's Skate Country' on the back.  All the members of the roller skating team had one for the occasions we had to separate the sheep from the group that weren't part of the team.  Did I just refer to myself as a...sheep?  Oh
